In January 2024, filmmaker Jeremy Corbell released military footage recorded in 2018 over a US base in Iraq.

It showed an object with a rounded body and trailing filaments moving across the sky, then over water, then away. People started calling it the Jellyfish. The Pentagon didn't say much. A Marine who'd been at the base later described it as the ghost story everyone told each other.

Nobody has satisfactorily explained it. It might be a balloon. It might be a drone. It might be a smudge on a lens that a lot of serious people spent a lot of time arguing about.

We're not claiming this is that. It's a lamp. But it's an extremely good likeness, and we thought you'd want one.

What it does

  • Sound reactive — it responds to noise in the room, so it pulses along to music or conversation
  • Rotatable tentacles, so you can set the drift rather than accept whatever it came in
  • Full colour range, from a single calm glow to slow shifting
  • Rechargeable internal battery — no trailing cable, put it anywhere

Why it's good in a dark room

The body diffuses light softly while the tentacles catch it in strands, so it reads as genuinely three-dimensional rather than as a lit-up plastic shape. It's the rare desk object that works as both a talking point and actual usable light.
